Bush & Mountain Flying Handbook
AFFORDABLE AND ACTION-PACKED BUSHFLYING EXPEDITIONS Most
of our tours head up into neighbouring countries, to fantastic places which are
best accessible by air. However more and more clients are looking for a cheaper
and easier flying adventure:
-
A couple of days of pure fun flying, learning certain
bushpilot techniques, and "roughing" it a bit.
-
A competent safety pilot goes along...not only will he /
she teach you certain techniques for some of the interesting strips you'll
encounter en-route, there's also no need to have your licence validated.
Note: While you'll learn basic bushflying techniques, this
is no substitute for the "real" bushpilot course...
-
Go where the wind blows: nothing is planned, you take off
in the morning, head out to many interesting strips to practice on, and
decide at some stage where to put your head down for the night. No stress to
reach a pre-booked destination, if the weather turns sour or something else
comes up you just fly to where it's good. Your safety pilot will know all the best strips and destinations.
-
Cross border flights are a possibility, however South
Africa itself offers a wide variety of beautiful destinations. These trips
generally concentrate around the Lowveld, the Drakensberg Mountains
bordering Lesotho and the Wild Coast.
-
Just about every level of accommodation is available,
although we generally use cosy and affordable guesthouses and stay with
friends wherever possible.
Sample prices:
Inclusive of aircraft hire, fuel, oil, etc. Safety Pilot.
Accommodation, meals and drinks. All landing fees, etc. Basically everything except your travel to the
starting point, Johannesburg.
C182 can accommodate 2 pilots / pilot & partner, plus safety pilot.
C172 can only accommodate single pilot plus safety pilot, considering the nature
of the strips and density altitude.
